There are a number of things which could fit into this category as they are major features.

One key characteristic could well be that of the way Luke stresses that Jesus was the

Saviour not just of the Jews but of the whole world.

32A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. As the Saviour of the whole world, Jesus is presented by Luke as showing compassion and care for many who were otherwise looked down on such as the poor, outcasts and women. Jesus saving work is one in which He thus stoops to show compassion to sinful men.

A:Prbably the most important thing about Luke's Gospel for the early development of Christianity, is that it was the only gospel that placed the life and mission of Jesus in a historical context. This is less relevant to day, and Raymond E. Brown (An Introduction to the New Testament) says that, although Luke likes to set his Christian drama in the context of well-known events from antiquity, sometimes he does so inaccurately.

AnswerThe author we now know as Luke based his Gospel on Mark's Gospel and added material from a number of sources, along with his own embellishments. In doing so, he must have known that the resultant Gospel was not a true account of the life of Jesus. Luke may have been writing an apology (formal defence) for a wider audience than Christians and potential converts. Upstart religions were frowned upon by the Romans, obliging Christians to demonstrate antiquity and virtue, creating one of the themes in Luke. In this context, antiquity was achieved by representing Jesus, his family and associates as pious Jews, while virtue was claimed from demonstrations of high communal ethic, political respectability and cooperation with the Roman peace.

Burton L. Mack (Who Wrote the New Testament) says that an important theme in Luke is that the Holy Spirit was especially active in the life of Jesus. It was the Holy Spirit that prepared for his coming in the person of John the Baptist (Luke 1:1 5-17, 67). It was the Holy Spirit that "overshadowed" Mary his mother (Luke 1:35). And it was the Holy Spirit that inspired the devout Simeon in the temple to foretell the child's destiny as "the Lord's messiah" and a "light to the gentiles" (Luke 2:25-26). It was the Holy Spirit that descended upon him in baptism (Luke 3:22), led him into the wilderness for testing (Luke 4:1) and filled him for his return to Galilee (Luke 4:14). There, in his first public appearance in the synagogue at Nazareth, Jesus stood up and read from the prophet "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me . . ." (Luke 4:16-21). Luke reported Jesus' announcement to his disciples that he would send "what my Father promised" (Luke 24:49), and in Acts of the Apostles this was the Holy Spirit that "came upon" the disciples at Pentecost (Acts 1-2).

More than any other New Testament gospel, Luke emphasises the virtue of poverty, a theme the author would take up in Acts of the Apostles, where he showed that Christians should sell their possessions and give everything to the Church.

Luke's Gospel also proposes that Christians should not only love one another, or love their neighbours, but even love their enemies.

AnswerLuke emphasises that salvation and the message of Christ are available and applicable to all humanity, not just Jews. He especially focuses on those who were outcast by society including the poor and women. Jesus' role in God's Kingdom is also stressed as is the role of prayer and compassion.

A:The book now known as the Gospel of Mark was the first of a new genre - the gospel genre. The Gospel of Luke is a member of that genre, as are the Gospels of Matthew and John, as well as many other non-canonical gospels. Sub-genres are the 'narrative gospels' and the 'sayings gospels'. All the New Testament gospels are narrative gospels.

Which gospel gave the first account of the nativity?

Since Matthew's Gospel was written up to twenty years before Luke's Gospel, Matthew's account would have been first. However, we know that the author of Luke's Gospel knew nothing of Matthew's Gospel, and so could not harmonise his account with that of Matthew. This is why the two accounts are so completely different.

When did Saint Luke the gospel writer die?

The Gospel was originally written anonymously and was only attributed by the Church Fathers to Luke, the companion of Paul, towards the end of the second century. However, there are strong reasons for believing that the gospel writer was not Luke, the companion of Paul. For this reason, 'Luke' the gospel writer (Luke the evangelist) should not be confused with Luke the companion of the apostle Paul. The same author wrote both the Gospel According to Lukeand Acts of the Apostles. Since Acts is believed to have been written early in the second century, then its author must have died some time afterwards, during the first part of the second century.Roman Catholic AnswerThis is from the Catholic Encyclopedia article: After St. Paul's martyrdom practically all that is known about him is contained in the ancient "Prefatio vel Argumentum Luc ", dating back to Julius Africanus, who was born about A.D. 165. This states that he was unmarried, that he wrote the Gospel, in Achaia, and that he died at the age of seventy-four in Bithynia(probably a copyist's error for B otia), filled with the Holy Ghost. Epiphanius has it that he preached in Dalmatia (where there is a tradition to that effect), Gallia (Galatia?), Italy, and Macedonia. As an Evangelist, he must have suffered much for the Faith, but it is controverted whether he actually died a martyr's death. St. Jerome writes of him (De Vir. III., vii). "Sepultus est Constantinopoli, ad quam urbem vigesimo Constantii anno, ossa ejus cum reliquiis Andre Apostoli translata sunt [de Achaia?]."so we do not know the date, as we do not know anything about his early life, much less his birthdate.

What were the 3 temptations in the desert for Jesus?

A:The three temptations in the wilderness are not in Mark's Gospel, but came into the Gospels of Matthew and Luke from the hypothetical 'Q' document. Although using the same source document, the two authors recorded two of the temptations in different sequences. Matthew's Gospel says that the devil first tried to tempt Jesus to turn a stone into bread, then took Jesus up to the pinnacle of the Temple in Jerusalem, and then to a high mountain in order to tempt him. Luke's Gospel says that the devil tried to tempt Jesus to turn a stone into bread, then took Jesus up to a high mountain in order to tempt him, and then to the pinnacle of the Temple in Jerusalem.
