This book took place during World War 2. It is about a young man named Tiger and his dreams, aspirations and journey from Chaguans to Barataria. Tiger, being young and inexperienced had been thrown into an arranged marriage at sixteen years old. He and his wife, Urmilla had then moved to Barataria where they'd met there new neighbours, Joe and Rita a married couple from Port- of- Spain.

Tiger and Urmilla weren't very comfortable with each other. They were practically strangers. Urmilla, a young girl (16) with long hair, black sad eyes and underdeveloped breasts. Upon moving to Barataria she'd taken up her role as a wife and soon to be mother very quickly whereas Tiger struggled to find himself and become a man.

Some of the people which they met during the book were: Tall boy, Sookdeo and Boysie, all of which impacted on their lives whether it be to large or small extent.

Tiger had began educating himself and exploring the different meethods of becoming a man- consummation, alcohol, cigarettes, abuse(towads urmilla) but in the end eventually realised what being a man meant to him. It meant making something of your life and not just sitting around, letting each day past.

This is just a brief guideline.

Tiger goes out on a drunken rage beating his father and wife for cursing him with a boy. But he then received a message from his boss who laid him off due to absence. The child actually turned out to be a girl and the book never said anything about Urmilla, the wife, having miscarriages. Tiger never beat anyone for the child being a girl. he simply went outside for a walk to calm down.
