The state flag was adopted on June 5, 1911 by an act of the General Assembly. The flag was originally designed by Andrew Carlisle Carson.

The colors of the state flag symbolize certain geographical features of Colorado. The gold stands for the abundant sunshine that the state enjoys as well as honoring the goldrush that help develop the state, early on. The white represents the snowcapped mountains while the blue stands for the clear blue skies. The red 'C' represents the ruddy color of much of our state's earth, and the Colorado River (Colorado is spanish for ' reddish color') from which the state was named.

The Colorado state seal is actually an adaptation of the Territorial Seal which was adopted by the First Territorial Assembly on November 16, 1861. The only changes are the words "State of Colorado" and the year inscription of "1876." The eye in the seal is actually the All-Seeing Eye. Below the eye is a scroll named the Roman fasces. And the axle symbolizes authority and leadership.
