The times in adjacent US time zones are one hour different, with the time in the zone to the east being one hour later than the time in the zone to its west. There are some large variations in the defined time zones throughout the world, but for the most part a time zone is 15 degrees of longitude, with the time in each zone being an hour apart. This is because dividing the 360 degrees of the Earth's circumference by the 24 hours in one Earth Day gives the world 24 of 15-degree time zones.
