Answer . Your best bet is to remove center grill 1st. Then, access to the headlamp is much easier. You might also have to remove trim piece unde headlamp but, it simply pops in. Also, on those headlights, there is a center reflector piece inside the lamp itself. This is what the bulb goes in. Unf…ortunately, it is common in these cars that this piece becomes detached from the headlamp unit and floats around inside there...causing your beam to be up or down. ( Full Answer )
Answer . \nIt's easy - there should be some instructions in the user manual, but if you lost it then just do this:\n. \nThe passenger's side is easier to change than the driver's side because the battery is in the way on the driver's side. If you are changing the driver's side for the first ti…me, check the passenger side to see it clearly then do the driver's side.\n. \n1. Remove the cover - a quarter turn with a flat-head screwdriver should do it.\n2. Remove the rubber booty that covers the light and wire.\n3. Disconnect the wire. There should be only one.\n4. Squeeze the metal clips that hold the light in, and gently move them down away from the lightbulb.\n5. Pull the lightbulb out.\n. \nReverse to add the new one. ( Full Answer )
not very, lots of quirky items with coolant loss via heater control valves or engine oil coolers. Nice cars though available at a great price.
Answer . Should be under vehicle along fram rail - follow the fuel line from the fuel tank
unless you are mechanically inclined, you dont want to mess with it. It is under the front, passenger side of motor....alot of disassembling!!!
the belt you are asking about is the one on the front of the engine it turns the alternator & power steering pump.
It depends on the model/engine/transmission. The 4.7/r/t 5.9 arethe fastest and are governed/limited to 112mphs.
Answer . The ECM that controls all your heating and cooling, fans etc. is located in your center module. It is in the top part of the rack that holds your radio.
Answer . mine topped out at i think 125 or 130. i wasn't really paying attention to the speedometer. the little information center said MAXIMUM SPEED ATTAINED or something to that effect, then it made the sound that it makes when the door is open, then the engine cut off.. it was very strange go…ing that fast without the roar of an engine. it was scary not having power steering or power brakes. if yours does this, bump it into neutral, then you can restart the engine, no matter how fast you're going. 95 mph, then the speed sensor shuts down the car.. My 93 will do 138+ I know for fact! I question if there even is a speed sensor on a 88. I'm not quite sure. I would say the only way to find out, is to try it and see, But be careful. My 93 advanced in to overdrive at about 130, it was still pullin…g at 138, the car at this point doesn't handle real well, so I backed off. ( Full Answer )
The thermostat is located in the front of the motor, underneath the plenum and intake manifold. (Both must be removed to access it. ) Just follow the upper radiator hose on the driver's side. It connects to it. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-catera-cimarron-forum/ is a great site for …repairing your Catera ( Full Answer )
My 93 will do 138+, I suppose if yours does not have a speed sensor, your car will do the same. I haven't really had the opportunity or balls to top mine out, but when I do I will let you know. I've topped mine off at 180 , the needle says it will only go 140 but my gps tells me the speed I trav…el at and it has gone up to 180. ( Full Answer )
The oil filter is found under the car, where the steering linkage goes from the wheels up into the frame. It is located about halfway into the "steering linkage tunnel" on the passenger side. Here is a more technical explanation: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-forum/t-12323.html
Yes. the computer will adjust the timing automatically; however, you will see about a ten percent drop in fuel mileage so why bother.? Also, you may get carbon buildup using regular. when you figure the difference in cost against the loss in mileage you find you're saving nothing.
The 1999 Cadillac thermostat can be found on the front of theengine. The thermostat will be inside of the thermostat housing. You can follow the top radiator hose directly to the thermostathousing.
i have a 01 sephia and ive gotten mine to125 stock. Ran out of road and i still had some power left so id say maybe 130 stock IT IS UN SAFE TO DRIVE OVER 85 TOO LIGHT
Oil Filter is two types. First is Spin On disposable style and second is Canister with Element . Disposable type needs a Strap Wrench tool remove it. Installation is by hand and about 1/4 turn beyond seated. The Canister with Element style needs a 24mm socket to remove the filter head…. Located on the drivers side (Left.) towards the bell housing or rear of the engine. ( Full Answer )
Use a 1/4" drive ratchet and extension. run the extension up the hole in the center of the filter cover. The filter is a replaceable cartridge with a gasket not a spin on.
NO! All Cateras are problems. Many, many individuals have bought this car and spent two to three times the cost of the car, in repairs. Join the Catera group on Yahoo to see all the problems.
It is on top behind the driver side of the radiator in between that and the engine... Real easy to find if you get in there and look
If you have to crank and crank to get it started look for the coolant temperature sensor and change it. This is just one reason for hard start and is the most popular reason. Other reasons could be plugs, plug wires, coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor and more.
Never use regular antifreeze in a Cadillac, you need to us GM DEX-COOL or it will ruin your cooling system.. Jim
my friend has a 2000 yz 125 they are quite similar to 250 four strokes they would probly do about 150 -170 kph
The Cadillac Catera, while a beautiful car, suffers from listed "recall" issues regarding failed bearings in their DOHC timing belt tensioners. (There are two) The L81 V-6 engine designed (used in this car as a 3.0, and 3.2 liter offerings) suffered of this mostly because the valve to piston clearan…ce is "crush" configuration so that when the belt slipped or broke, the engine was damaged. (Holes being punched through a piston or bending a valve, thereby cracking a head) They are a distributor less engine, so the problems you are having could be indicative of bad spark plugs or wires, fuel filter flow, (dirty fuel filter) or regrettably, a stretched or worn timing belt/ tensioners. It would be advisable for you to take it to the dealer to have them check to see if it was part of the recall, or to your local mechanic for repairs. Other issues like the failing of sensors or the computer modual are beyond the scope of a "Shade tree mechanic" so it isn't recommended that you attempt to make these repairs yourself. The speed is electronically controlled by the PCM. Its set at the factory depending on the tires installed on the car when new. This is so you cannot over speed the tires.. So, read the speed rating off the tires on the car like 97S, H or Z etc. Deduct about 20% and this will give you an approximat…e idea how fast it will go per the factory defaults. My Deville shuts down at 112 m.p.h. because it has comfort tires not performance tires. ( Full Answer )
it is under the plenum(top of motor) it is a complete unit w/ housing....pain in the ass to replace.
There is an adapter kit out to fit. or you can custom do one with a custom front trim plate - I took that route - went to junk yard bought dash piece with the same color leather - pulled it over piece of hard plastic cut out hole for CD player and installed Good Luck

are you seriously needing the pump or just the heat exchanger due to a leak or low oil pressure? the exchanger (sometimes referred to as the oil 'cooler,' which it's not) is underneath the plenum and above the actual engine - sorta sandwiched between them. your 2001 should have a good one (newer des…ign), so you may in fact be looking at an oil pump problem or an HCV (easy to change) problem. for those, get a service manual off eBay or go to cadillacforums.com and look up or join the catera/cimarron group for just about every accurate answer to any question you can dream up about these things. i did... Yes, a 1998 Cadillac Catera will fit in your 19971 Cadillac Catera. The model of vehicles are very close to one another.
Surprise! There isn't one! There is a plug on the side of the Transmission pan. The transmission is full when fluid starts draining from the removed plug.
It is not an easy task, it may take you few good hours (it s aprox.4h job for a qualified technician) First start with the Qs: "Do i need to change something else if I have a leak at the water pump? YES- coolant fluid on timing belt = It MUST be change too "When was last time the timing belt chang…ed?" If the answer it is over 50,000 miles do a cumulative job at a Cadillac or Saturn dealer. It will run approximately $800 + parts (100 water pump+25 timing belt+25 driving belt) comparative costs: - timing belt approximated 750 + parts (25 timing belt+25 driving belt) - water pump approximated 500 + parts (100 water pump+25 driving belt) If you have good mechanical skills and up to do work on your Catera invest in a SERVICE MANUAL. Try to find and buy the one in 3 volumes for your 2001 (I got mine 1998 for $180- good even only for this job as a hobby over a weekend + you can resell it easy). ( Full Answer )
They were made between 1997 and 2001 GM. In 2003 Cadillac came out with the CTS to replace it.

You need to change the K134 Multifunction Relay module: The Multifunction Module under the IP(Under the Drivers side dashboard) . It is factory part number 90494163 and is around $85 plus tax at the dealer.
the tcm is located when you are looking from the front of the car it will be located on the right side of the motor
$900-1200 is the going rate in most of the country. However this car uses the GM L81 3.0 V6. This engine has also been used in some Saturn and Saab models so be on the lookout for one of those as well. You would need to reuse your parts from intake manifold up though if you went that route.
I have a 2000 cadillac catera sometimes the radio will shut offwhen this occurs the fuel door will not open neither will the trunk
The Cadillac Catera went into production in 1997 in Germany. It is a version of an earlier Opel model called the Omega. These are mid size cars popular in the US market.
