Rapid Transport Of Trained Medical Crew: There are a 2 types of ambulance crews; Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic (both are also able to drive the ambulance as well as work in the back). When someone has a heart attack, for example, he or she will need IMMEDIATE medical help, such as a paramedic/EMT and a doctor (the ambulance crew may be the first help to arrive). The ambulance must be able to get quickly to the scene, which is why an ambulance uses lights and sirens). It must get there quickly because a heart attack is a life threatning condition and it is important to act quicky to ensure the victim survives. Essential Medical Supplies: In addition to the first (above) aim, an ambulance also carries essential life-saving equipment/supplies (eg. Oxygen cylinders, AED's, etc). In this sense ambulance crews only aim is to use this equipment when need to ensure that a person can survive before arriving at hospital, but it is not the only aim (other aims of ambulance crews include: transporting people to nearest hospital, reassurance of patient/s and stabilising the patient). The above examples deal with one individual ambulance and crew rather than the whole ambulance service, but at the same time the above aims can relate to the whole ambulance service industry as a whole. I gave examples individually to make it easier to understand. Hope this helped:)

We need ambulances so they can take sick people or hurt people to the hospital quicker. They have a loud siren that warns everyone that someone is hurt or sick. When you see them passing by or blowing the horn """STOP""" and let them get the sick or hurt people to the hospital.

That depends on what type of ambulance you are talking about.

Emergency Ambulance: most common type which provide care to people with an illness or injury. It can be road-going van, boat, helicopter, or fixed-wing aircraft also known as air ambulance.

Patient transport ambulance: a vehicle in which is used for transporting patients to, from or between different places for medical treatment such as hospital or dialysis for any non-urgent care.

Response unit: this is also known as a fly-car and is used to reach an acutely ill or injured patient quickly so that they may give on site medical care. This type of ambulance however does not have the ability to transport patients. Response units must be backed up by an emergency ambulance. Response units can be anything from a standard car, modified van, motorcycle, bicycle, quads or horses.

Charity ambulance: special type of transport ambulance for the purpose of taking sick children or adults on trips/vacations away from hospitals, hospices or care homes where they are for long term care.
