Best Answer

Because they enjoy it

Because they have to People use computers as they make their jobs easier. They can be used for communicational purposes (internet), to store and calculate data and to write up massive documents multiple times while only needing to write it up once. Others use computers for entertainmen value; to play games, watch movies and play music etc. Computers are also more convinient and reliable than the older ways of doing things, like type writers, scales and other counting devices.

Computers are the basic means of communication and without them human civilization would be brought back into a "dark age" because everything you do in life has been based around them. Cell phones, cars, taxes, everything you do in life ties in with a computer in some form or another. Computers are the future and if you know how to use them you can almost anything through simulations and testing.

A computer is a person or machine that computes or performs computations. The human brain is a computer but, as powerful as it is, it is not infallible; it makes mistakes, it forgets, and it requires rest periodically. Thus we use our brains to build the tools and machines that can perform computations for us, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.

The earliest mechanical computers were analog computers. They performed relatively simple computations such as measuring temperatures (thermometers), keeping track of time (clockwork timepieces) and for targeting purposes (bomb sights), to name but a few. But while these machines greatly simplified common computations, they were somewhat limited. In order to perform a new computation, an existing machine had to be modified to suit (which was seldom possible), or a completely new machine had to be built.

The introduction of the digital computer changed all that. Digital computers allow the same machine to perform an infinite number of computations, simply by reprogramming them. We still build new computers all the time of course, but the main reason is simply that the existing technology is simply too slow. As we come up with ever more complex computations, faster computers are needed to perform them within a reasonable time-frame. Whereas an early digital computer might have taken hours or even days to perform a complex computation, a modern supercomputer can complete the task in less than a nanosecond. The faster we can compute, the more complex those computations can become and the more variables we can consider -- thus allowing us to solve computations that would have otherwise been impossible to even conceive, let alone compute.

While computers have many practical and vital uses within the scientific, mathematical and economic industries of the world, they make our everyday lives easier too. In this modern world of mobile computing and telecommunication, we can accomplish far more than we ever could in the past. We are no longer limited by our brain's ability (or indeed its inability) to compute. That doesn't mean we no longer use our brains, of course, far from it. Computers simply make it easier for us to apply our brains in more complex ways than we otherwise might. Computers also satisfy our brain's lust for entertainment, whether to construct imaginary worlds we can interact with (games and films), or to supply us with an endless stream of puzzles to solve, or simply to provide us with something to read on the train.

So, we use computers because we can, and we need to. As wonderful as our brains are, many of the achievements we see today would have been difficult, if not impossible without the aid of computers.
