Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a mint mark at roughly the 8:00 position. Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2014:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $18

Moderately worn - $24

Slightly worn - $63

Almost no wear - $344

Uncirculated - $620 to $10,600 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):

Very worn - $18

Moderately worn - $37

Slightly worn - $115

Almost no wear - $712

Uncirculated - $1,410 to $51,680

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $18

Moderately worn - $22

Slightly worn - $35

Almost no wear - $306

Uncirculated - $600 to $65,000

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
