Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter above the word ONE. It may be blank or there may be a D or S. (The intertwined A and F on the front of the coin are the designer's monogram and not a mint mark.)

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 04/2011:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $32

Moderately worn - $36

Slightly worn - $37

Almost no wear - $51

Uncirculated - $78 to $21,060 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):

Very worn - $32

Moderately worn - $36

Slightly worn - $37

Almost no wear - $74

Uncirculated - $156 to $30,310

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $32

Moderately worn - $36

Slightly worn - $37

Almost no wear - $76

Uncirculated - $144 to $42,500

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary significantly due to changes in the precious metals market. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Common Questions about Peace Dollars

"Trvst"

The spelling is NOT an error. Please see the Related Question for more information.

"Liberty", "E Pluribus Unum"

All Morgan and Peace dollars carry those mottoes as do most other U.S. coins so they're not a distinguishing piece of information.

"A" 'mint mark'

That's the monogram of Anthony de Francisci who designed the coin. It's really an intertwined A and F.
