A "Kennedy double eagle" wouldn't be a regular issue US coin. Are you sure you don't have a normal half dollar with a spread-wing eagle on the back? If so, it's only worth 50 cents. If not, please post a new question with more details.
It's gold-plated, not gold. The underlying coin is made of copper-nickel and is only worth 50¢.
These items are made by private companies who plate ordinary coins with a small amount of gold and sell them as "collectibles". There's very little interest in them outside of a few niche-type collectors, so they usually resell for far less than the original price.
The numismatic term "Double Eagle" applies only to $20.00 gold coins from 1850 to 1933. Post a new question and include the denomination of the coin.
No U.S. gold coins of any type were struck in 1985. The term "Double Eagle" is used only for $20.00 gold coins. Please post new question with more information.

This coin has a eagle on one side and a double eagle on the other. On the side with the eagle head it has written American Eagle Bicentennial 1985 and on the side with the double eagle is written double eagle commemorative with stars and 200 years It appears to have a silver base with the eagle's done in gold. It is in a clear plastic case. Any ideas of worth?
