A bill's serial number is just a counter and doesn't help to ID it. What matters are the seal color, date, and series letter. Despite its age, a 1934-A $20 bill retails for about $22-24 in average condition.
I think you're looking at part of the serial number and not the series letter, which is next to the date. Series letters for 1935 $1 bills run from (blank) to H. You can either post a new question with the series letter or take a look at a site such as the one in Related Links for an idea of retail values.
This 1950 B series bill is a fairly valuable bank note. Fully uncirculated it can be valued between $100 and $100.
The dates on US Paper Money denote the year that particular design started. Because of this, Notes printed over a number of years may have the same Series date. There were no Series 1948 $5 Notes printed. The Series 1934 $5 bills were printed with that date from 1934 to 1950, when the Series 1950 began.
"B" isn't a serial number, it's the series letter and indicates that your bill was part of the third Treasury Secretary / Treasurer pairing since the series began (B is 3rd because the first set doesn't have a letter). Please see the Related Question for more information.
