Assuming that you have a Browning safari grade bolt action rifle which is chambered in a standard caliber(270 Win.) the value of your rifle with a original finish between 60%-90% is 550 -1175 dollars.Your 6L prefix to the serial number indicates that your rifle was made by FN of Belguim for Browning in 1966.This was during a time when FN used salt to cure and age the stock wood quickly. This caused the firearms to rust under the stock line!If yours has this problem then the value would be diminished quite a bit,
The 'X' series was not used on 12ga guns. Please doublecheck your serial number. In any event, the percentages you list would take it out of the collector category and make it a $400-$450 shooter.
Go to gunbroker.com and take a look at the 100 or so Browning A-5 semi automatic shotguns that are offered. Prices start ( in Aug 2007) at 200 and go to $1000 for a Belgiumj A-5 new in the box. Rebluing will reduce the value of your gun by 50% at least and if the general condition of the gun, dents, dings, rust, are present the gun is further devalued. Engraving enhances the value of a gun especially if it is custom factory engraving. Good luck
Browning is controlled red rust Fe2O3 and is also known as pluming or plum brown. One can generally use the same solution to brown as to blue. The difference is immersion in boiling water for bluing. The rust then turns to black-blue Fe3O4. Many older browning and bluing formulae are based on corrosive solutions (necessary to cause metal to rust), and often contain cyanide solutions that are especially toxic to humans.
If there is any rust on it anywhere or the stock is cracked: $125.00 if it is in like new condition: $350.00 Hope that helps! Blue Mt Gunworks
i bought mine off of a used gun rack in good condition for $400
Salt
If it's on the inside of the action, very little.
"Good" is a relative term. Assuming 70% overall condition, about $350. Note that cracked forends or buttstocks, completely gray metal or rust is definitely less than "good." In less than 90% condition, Auto-5's are valued more as shooters than as collector pieces and pre-war 16ga shotguns should definitely be checked for chamber length. Yours originally had the older 2 9/16" chambering and should not be used with modern 2 3/4" shells. sales@countrygunsmith.net
