In this model of Winchester rifle, there is no difference in value between the round or octagon barrel.
yes in most cases it can be interchanged with little or no modification
Who made it, what caliber is it, is it a rifle, shotgun or hadgun, how long is the barrel, is the barrel round or octagon, what is the stock made out of, what is the serial number(if any)? Depends on what you have.

I too have a rifle matching this description. Any information would be of interest.
You will have to call TC for the information. No published data.
Cannot answer with info you provided.
date of manufacture, np=98 date of manufacture, np=98
Mine is 1906 but is clearly stated on top of barrel
Originally, the purpose of the octagon barrel was to reduce weight by removing metal from the barrel. Today, much of the reason is looks.
No way to answer without knowing who made it.
I can give you a more accurate value if you will provide the serial number(to determine the year of manufacture). I will also need to know if your rifle has any special features such as a takedown model,A button magazine(half magazine),special wood, pistol grip buttstock, round barrel or half round half octagon,or full octagon barrel etc.
I have one and it's a 22 caliber.
i recently went to a local auction and one sold for 1000
None of them say. 22 short, long, or long rifle round barrel 12-A octagon barrel 12-C 22 short (octagon) 12-B 22 Remington Special (octagon) 12-CS
I believe I have a Marlin No.18 pump action octagon barrel single shot rifle. Would upload photo but cannot locate this option.
Not a good description. The .22 rimfire was not invented until 1856, so a rifle made in 1818 could not be.
Blue Book of Gun Values, gun shop, gun shows
I highly suspect that the rifle has an octagon (8-sided) barrel. The October 7th, '79 patent date strongly points towards the rifle being a Browning or Winchester Single Shot rifle. The serial number on the barrel or the lower tang will help solve the mystery.
I received a similar rifle from my grandfather. He had a letter from Remington stating the rifle was manufactured between 1900 - 1907, if I remember correctly.
You will need to provide a detailed description of the rifle in question to get a accurate value. Please include the amount of original finish remaining on the wood and metal, the bores condition, and if any special order features are present on your rifle. This would include(special wood, checkered wood, half magazine, octagon barrel, barrel length etc.) All these were available at the time of manufacture and would enhance the value of your rifle.
A Marlin 1889 .32-20 Safety octagon barrel rifle in good condition (75 - 80 % finish in metal, most of original finish on wood, NO modifications) should be worth about $800.00 to $1,200.00 dollars.
first is a Winchester or a marlin? what calibre? what shape? condition is all important in gun values
