There is not one Zip code for Nova Scotia. (Here they are Postal Codes). Each Postal code is made up of two parts. The first three characters are the part used for sorting the mail. Each province or territory has a unique letter, except the two eastern territories share one. Nova Scotia has "B" so all our codes start with the letter b so sorting comes to Nova Scotia, then if the next character is a 0 the address is in a rural area, if 1 to 9 then it is urban. The third character is a letter that gives a more exact location in the rural or urban area. The last Three characters are the local delivery unit. In urban areas the last three digits may indicate a specific city block, a single building or, in some cases, a large volume receiver. In Rural areas the last three digits, together with the first three characters identify a specific rural community.
