Please tell me how many type of processor do we have?
What is the better processor Intel or amd?
That depends which processor type you are looking at. There are mobile processors, desktop processors and server processors. At the moment I would think that Intel has the better mobile processors, AMD and Intel are about level in the desktop market and Intel is slightly ahead for server processors. But both companies develop new processors all the time and each new processors might changes this. In general it is difficult to judge who makes the better processors.

Which processor is used in Linux for desktops?
Linux can be run on a variety of processors, including several that have been used for desktop systems. The most notable would be Intel and AMD x86 processors, as well as PowerPC processors (used in older Macs. ) Other processors used in desktop systems now or in the past and supported by Linux include Motorola 68k processors, Alpha processors, MIPS processors, and ARM processors.

How many central processors are there in modern computers?
Number of Processors in a Computer depends on the type of Computer. If it is a Server Computer then it use Multiple Processors based Motherboard to serve with fast operations whereas normal Home based computers are machines with single Processors. Nowadays CPU can comprise of Multiple Cores of CPUs on a single fabric, for eg. Intel Dual Core, Core2Duo & Coe2Quad CPUs.
What type of computer applications would be enhanced by a dual-core processor?
Not many. Without being specifically written to take advantage of multiple processors or else recompiled with altered settings, to do so, software gains no advantage from multiple processors (or 'cores'). However, you still have the advantage of 'extra processor power' in general (e.g. two processors of the same type is still twice the processing power of a single processor of that type). The move to multiple cores and multiple processors has more to do with physical limitations which prevent manufacturers from simply increasing the 'clock' as had been the case for about a decade previously.
