What is wrong when brake and signal lights work but tail lights do not?
What causes the tail lights not to work on a 1995 Chevy Tahoe when the turn signal and brake lights do work?
either dimmer switch or blown fuse If you are saying that the tail brake lights are working but the third brake light is not....It may be a defective turn signal switch in the steering column.
What is wrong if the brake lights in a 2000 Cavalier Z24 do not work but the tail lights directional hazard and center brake lights all do and the tail lamps have been replaced?
Check the brake switch at the pedal.
Tail lights. Brake lights. Backup lights. Signal lights. License plate lights.
You probably have a bad turn signal switch (inside the steering column) if this is a GM.
Maybe it is not connected properly or you bought the wrong type of bulb.
First of all.Whats wrong with them. Second if its a turning signal or a brake light problem Third is it reverse lights Being more specific does help get more answers
Try checking the tail light relay.
The bulb is burnt out. If the problem was a fuse, then all brake lights and probably the dashboard lights would be out as well.
There could be a severed connection somewhere along the line, or it could just be a blown fuse
See sources and related links below for 1993 Dodge Shadow tail light, brake light and turn signal light bulb part numbers.
Why do your brake lights remain on when you have the lights on but work just fine when they are off?
This usually means a bad or wrong bulb in the tail lights
What is wrong if the brake lights in a 1999 Cavalier Z24 do not work but the tail lights directional hazard and center brake lights all do and the tail lamps have been replaced?
The problem points to the directional/lights and hazard switch. The brake light wiring is part of that circuit. You can buy the switch after market it is about $70.00.
What is wrong when the dash lights do not come on also my tail lights don't work Fuses are all good flashers brake lights and turn signels work Just no tail lights or dash lights?
It is either a bad relay , cut wire or the wrong wattage bulb .
How do you wire an electric brake controller for an RV onto a Semi tractor where the brake and turn signal lights are wired separately to make the electric brakes turn signals and brake lights work?
I found it easier to use the wires to the tail lights on the tractor.
Is it illegal to take off the lights on the trunk of the Chevy cobalt coupe and get a new trunk hatch?
No it is not illegal, as long as you have operational tail lights, brake lights, signal lights and a plate light.
Headlights? Brake lights? Tail lights? Signal lights? Courtesy lights? Dash lights? Check engine lights? Need more info please.
Why will both brake lights work when the tail lights aren't on but only one works when the tail lights are on?
may have the wrong type bulb check to make sure bulb has two contact points.
You have an unidentifible service light on your dashboard The symbol is a car there are 3 little lines coming from each side of the back of the car There is not anything wrong with your brake lights?
Have you checked all the lights? Reverse lights, tail lights and brake lights?
The turn signal switch is bad. Happened to me on a 99 Lumina. Got to pull steering wheel, etc. to replace switch. The brake light circuit goes through turn signal switch. The third (high mounted brake lite) brake lite uses switch on brake pedal
Look for a fuse labeled TAIL LIGHTS. There are 2 separate circuits, one for brake turn and flasher and the other is for tail lights.
Signal hazards and brake lights don't work then do then don't but tail lights work fine on a 2002 Z- 24 Chevy Cavalier?
Try your fuses
Its the brake switch on the brake pedal. Its a plunger like switch, its usually the only thing on the brake pedal. Its pretty easy and cheap to change.
Be sure to keep the rear tail lights, brake lights and signal lights in good working order. To many times you see vehicles with lights missing.
If a trailer was hooked up what wires need to be changed over for the tail lights on the truck to work?
Im not sure i under stand your guestion, but it sounds like the trailer wireing is wrong. The wires on the trailer should be wired like this. White is ground, Green is right turning signal,Yellow is left turning signal,Brown is running lights, Black is brake lights. I hope this helps you.
What is wrong if the stoplights don't work but the tail lights and rear signal lights work and the stop light light bulbs have been replaced and the fuses checked?
brake light switch bad check for continuity at the fuse then the switch, but yeah bad switch. Kongkit Raggan-Supatanampon
They are two separate circuits, each has their own fuse. The brake lights not working could be caused by a few things such as a blown fuse, blown bulbs, bad brake light switch, misadjusted brake light switch and depending on what vehicle you have, a bad signal light switch.
How do you repair brake light short headlights on no brake lights just the cyclops lights off brake lights and cyclops all bulbs new and correct no obvious wire damage or switch wear?
Your question was a little unclear, does the brakelight work when the headlights are off but not when they're on? If that's the case, it's a ground problem. Check the ground to the tail light/brake light assembly. If the brake lights don't work at all, check the turn signal switch. Brake lights are routed throug the turn signal so that you can use the same bulb for turn signal and brake light. BTW, if you… Read More
It could be a blown fuse. Tail lights and brake/turn are on separate fuses. Apparently there is not a ground problem since brake/turn works OK.
On a toyota tacoma 2003 SR5 when the tail lights are turned on the brake lights come on and when the tail lights are of the brake lights work just fine what could be the problem. If the truck has a trailer plug, inspect the plug and plug wiring for damage and corrosion.
Could be a brake switch, its under the brake pedal arm - work the trigger manually and see if its stuck. Doublecheck your brake lights though...does the single brake light in the window work? (double check the bulb) If the brake light in the window works and the 2 tail lights do not work, then you have a bad "turn signal switch." I know, the name is confusing. The turn signal switch is the multifunction… Read More
1985 Chevrolet astro van tail lights out dome light out brake lights out what's wrong and what do you fix complicated?
check your fuses, likely culprit
Check the bulb. If it didn't help check wires around the tail light. Also you might want to check the fuse box for failed fuses.
Why Camry 2000 LE signals an amber color warning sign car symbol with glow of tail lights what does this meanchecked tail lights and side signal lights and they look OK?
I was told that only one bulb fit the high mount tail lamp socket by both the repair people and the parts store. There are, however, 2, lamps that fit that socket. If you use the wrong bulb, the dash panel indicator lamp stays on after you push the brake pedal. Answer If the light does not come on until the first time you push on the brake pedal after starting the car it means… Read More
No this isn't the reason why your tail lights don't work. Tail-lights and the turn signal are two different systems in the car: if your turn signal is broken that doesn't necessarily mean that your tail-light will be broken.
On most cars, the brake light and turn signal are the same element in the bulb with two elements in it. The other one is the tail lights. The brake light will often burn out sooner because it is used more and the on off is harder on the element. If you have the front amber running lights, it is almost certainly the bulbs.
What do you do if your tail lights do not work while driving though brake lights work fuses and bulbs are good?
on some cars the tail lights and brake lights are totally different bulbs gain access to the bulbs and have someone push the brakes so that you can determine which bulbs are the brake lights and replace the tail lights
Are you saying your tail lights themselves do not work and only the brake lights work. If that is the case, check the fuse, and then check the tail light bulbs.
Your tail lights wont work when your headlights are on The brake lights dont work at all Fuses are fine Headlight switch is good What is wrong with your tail lights and brake lights?
I suspect either a faulty ground circuit, or a much easier fix, faulty bulb/bulbs. You might be surprised the havoc a grounded out bulb will cause an electrical system.
Is it possible for the tail light and signal light to be working properly and the brake lights not work at all on a 1999 ford escort ZX2?
Yes. It could be a blown brake light fuse or a faulty brake light switch.
What would cause your dashboard lights to NOT work except when the brake is applied on a 1996 Galant?
This sounds like a circuit board issue. See this answer from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_would_the_dashboard_lights_work_ONLY_when_the_brakes_are_applied Have you replaced any tail light or turn signal bulbs lately? It is a common mistake to replace a combinaton turn signal/tail light bulb with the wrong one. I ran into this problem on an older buick. I replaced a bad turn/tail bulb with the wrong bulb. The new bulb fit but when I stepped on the brakes the dash lights would come… Read More
The tail lights on my 1988 Chevy Nova work fine when I press the brake pedal but when I turn on the switch for lights only the headlights seem to work and not the tail lights why don't they work?
The tail light bulbs are on a different circuit than the signal light/stop light bulbs. Check for a burnt fuse or a loose wire.
Check the switch on the brake pedal
Take a hammer to the tail lights then they will shut off but you might have to get them replaced or somting The tail lights you see may actually be the brake lights stuck on because of a faulty or out of adjustment brake light switch.
On your 1985 Toyota Pickup the tail lights and turn signals work fine and all bulbs check out OK so why don't the brake lights work?
I had a similar experience on my 57 Chevy back in the 60's. 1. CheckFuse Panel fuse under Brake Lights. 2. Check bulbs High Beam filaments. 3. Withrunning lights on tap tail lights to check for wire grounding shorts. 4. Check flasher to see that the lights work. 5. This is what I discovered to be wrong: Look under Brake Pedal for the Brake Relay Switch button. It works in reverse like the button on… Read More
Those tail lights could be the brake lights you are seeing and that would be a faulty brake light switch or the brake light switch is out of adjustment.
Try replacing turn signal flasher
What could you check if your drivers side brake light works when headlights are off but not when on?
The ground for the brake lamp. When the tail lights are off, the tail light circuit can act as a ground for the brake light. When the tail lights are on, it can't.
if the tail lights work but not brake lights then its most likely just a blown fuse or it could be the switch at the top of your brake pedal arm.
check the bulb, it has two filaments, one for tail light, another for brake light and indicator. if the turn signal works, it's not the bulb, but a power supply problem.
its on different bulbs
