Radiator fluid or antifreeze as it's called circulates through your heater core under the dash and provides you with heat and warm air for defrost. If you are smelling it inside the car then your heater core may have a leak. IS there any visible signs of leakage on the carpet in the car? The heater core usually has an inlet tube and an outlet tube through the firewall and maybe one of these is leaking. It could be leaking on the outside as well. Look for wetness around any hoses connecting to any tubes coming through the firewall. If you keep having to add antifreeze, you definitely have a leak.

foggy windows on passenger side.... smell of antifreeze in car... lost of radiator fluid.. lose of power..

Why does radiator fluid get into heater vents?

You heater works from water flowing from your radiator to the heater core, you may have a leak in your heater core. You most likely also smell antifreeze inside the vehicle. It is most likely casued by a leaky heater core. Unfortunatly depending upon the make/model/year of your vehicle a heater core can be difficult and/or expensive to replace.

Why your 2006 Toyota raw4 has water on the passenger floor front?

Is the colour of the fluid green? or red, or does it smell? that's a definite sign that radiator coolant is finding its way onto your floor from the radiator, and if you let it continue and don't top up the radiator fluid inside the engine bay, your engine will overheat and die. Sounds to me like a heater radiator leak, don't drive the car until you are regularly checking the level of the fluid in the radiator and get it to a mechanic to swap that radiator out for a new one. and in addition get the mechanic to flush out the radiator fluid for new stuff.

Why does the car you just bought smell like radiator?

Likely as not there is a coolant leak, perhaps in the heater core.

The smell of radiator coolant as the car is running?

Theres a leak. Probably a hose but could be radiator or heater core, water pump or engine core plug

What does it mean when radiator fumes are coming through the vents in a 1995 corvette?

Generally, with that smell- the heater core has gone bad.

Why you smell radiator fluid?

If you are smelling the sweet but unpleasant aroma of antifreeze, your vehicle is leaking it somewhere. A lot of the time the culprit is the water pump. They have a weep hole and when the bearing starts to fail it will begging leaking from this hole. I would start by getting myself a flashlight and start scanning your engine's water hoses for a leak. Check the mail hoses going to/from the radiator as well as the heater hoses leading to the firewall. Do you smell the antifreeze odor INSIDE the car? If so, it could be your heater core that's failing.

1994 Ford Escort Has smell of anti-freeze through vents but no leak and no fluid loss?

Chances are it is a busted heater core. It your window has a fog on it when you turn on the ac or heater.

1994 dodge caravan 6-cylinder leaks very little antifreeze from back of motor Also hoses are always full of fluid what coud cause this and it has a sweet smell when the heater is on?

One problem could the water inlet hose "O" ring on the pipe that goes from the lower radiator hose to the block. Also your heater core could be leaking. If that's the case, your front windshield will fog up in the colder weather.sounds like your heater core is bad or leaking as was spoke of. for you said whenyour heat it on , there is a sweet smell. You get your heat from the heater core, so if your smelling antifreeze when your heater is on, I would believe , it's your heater core. As far as the sweet smell your getting from the heat.

Your heater in your truck is blowing out cold air only the car gauge shows the truck is hot?

Radiator fluid takes the heat from the explosions in your engine and pulls it away to cool the engine. This hot fluid then goes through the radiator line and into your heater core under your dashboard. Air blows past the heater core and becomes hot/warm as the heat transfers. If you have a problem with your radiator fluid such as low concentration or poor circulation, the heat will not enter the fluid the same or get passed to the heater core. If you have just water, for instance, the hot water can only go up to 100 degrees celcius before reaching its limit. Engine cooling systems use radiator coolant to remove excess heat from the engine. The coolant usually consists of water containing various additives that reduce corrosion and improve the efficiency of the coolant. Some of the desirable characteristics of a coolant (commonly referred to as anti-freeze) are as follows: Ability to lower the freezing point of water to below the lowest likely winter operating temperatures. Satisfactory chemical stability. Low cost. Ability to protect the cooling system metals from corrosion deposits. Lubrication of connecting hoses. Ability to raise the boiling point of water thus increasing the cooling system pressure. This leads to a more efficient heat transfer by allowing the coolant to circulate at a higher maximum temperature. Radiator fluids generally consist of water, ethylene or propylene glycol, corrosion inhibitors and other additives. You may have one of a few things wrong. 1. You may have a block in your radiator line or a bad heater core. If you do, the hot radiator fluid is not running through your heater core and the air is not transferring the heat from the heater core to your cab, because the heather core is not hot. You may need to replace the heater core or open the blockage in the radiator line. 2. You may have a leak in your gasket in your cylinder head. If this is the case, you will have excessive smoke coming from your tailpipe. If this is the case you need to get pre-mixed radiator fluid ASAP to replace the fluid that has gone into the cylinder area and out the tailpipe. You will smell a fish-like smell if this is being burned in the cylinder and out the tail.
