What is wrong with a '78 Chevy pickup auto when you are replacing the fuel pump how do you get the rod behind it to move in fully?

Sometimes U can use a 90? pair of needle nose pliers or U can

pull off the 2 small bolts holding the plate on-then take thick

grease & put on the shaft & install the pump FAST or there

is a bolt INFRONT of the engine that goes through 2 that rod-take

out the short bolt & install a longer bolt(3/8 corse thread) 2

slightly put pressure on the FALLING out rod.Sometimes U need 2 put

a taper on the longer bolt(JUST ON THE END) 2 hold the rod in

place.then REINSTALL the ORIGINAL bolt BEFORE U START THE

ENGINE.
