Your problem is being caused by the GM Passlock security system. It basically monitors your ignition keyswitch to determine if it has been turned without the proper key inserted. However, this system can begin to operate erratically as the vehicle ages (and the keylock cylinder has been turned numerous times). The owner's manual recommends calling GM roadside assistance for immediate help, or taking the vehicle to a GM dealer for repair. This system can be (and must be) overriden when installing a "remote start" system on your car. I know folks who have purchased the override module just for the purpose of removing the security feature due to its erratic operation.

read up on the system and check all the basics... everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the local library should have a SHOP manual available in the reference section--make copies of the right info and read up..you'll be a pro in no time ...good luck:)
it might be the chip in the key. i know it does it in later model cars.
