It truly depends on the trans - auto or manual? Chev or? However, if you can go forward but reverse is gone, you have broken parts in the transmission. Really common on some GM's. Dan the tranny man
There may be something wrong with the transmission or the linkage.
Coud be linkage adjustment Or something internal
Check the transmission fluid level.
There can be several things that will cause your transmission not go into reverse. The most common cause is the gear in the transmission is worn.
You need a new gear box (transmission)
There's probably something wrong with the reverse gear. Have it checked by a mechanic then see how much it would cost to repair it.
the gear reverse don't work in the transmission, the tothers gears okey. This actually happened to me once. A piece inside the transmission had actually broken off, and there was no way to fix it other than to replace the transmission. Sorry.
If your van won't go into reverse, the transmission might be stuck. It could also be low on transmission fluid.
what is the problem when the car will not go in drive or reverse? and the transmission fluid is still full
your transmission is about to go, usually reverse goes first
If it is an automatic transmission then your reverse clutch pack is probably burnt out in which case your transmission needs to be rebuilt If it it a manual transmission and it wont go into the reverse gear it is probably a shift synchronizer.
You blew your transmission, took out the reverse gear. You'll have to take it to a tranny shop and get it rebuilt (not cheap), or replace it yourself with one from a scrap yard. ($600 in parts, a weekend to do it)
If your 1995 Chevy 2500 truck won't go in reverse, you got some transmission problems.
Because your transmission is broken. When a car wont go into gear(s) there is something wrong with the linkage, the transmission control system ( electronics on some newer vehicles ), the clutch or the the transmission itself.
Tranny is shot. The reverse gear in your transmission had burned out
If your 93 Nissan Maxima will not go into reverse at all, your transmission is either getting ready to go out or you are low on transmission fluid. You should check your transmission fluid first before messing with the actual transmission.
I would recommend you have it repaired.
a transmission problem
95% of GM autos with no reverse will need to repair the transmission 95% of GM autos with no reverse will need to repair the transmission
use AUTOMATIC TRANS FLUID SPIII FROM THE DEALER YOU CANT GO WRONG
It means the reverse clutch pack has gone out in your transmission and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
Your 1996 GMC Sierra truck might not go in reverse because the transmission fluid is empty. You might also have damaged the transmission or the transmission linkage could be broken.
truck will only go forward not in reverse does this mean the transmission is gone
i am sorry to say but the low and reverse band has went out of your transmission and you need to replace it before the high bands go to
Transmission is going out. Reverse is always the 1st one to go.
