The spine is made of of vertebrae and the pelvis. There are 5 sections to the spinal column. The first (neck) is the cervical and it can 7 vertebrae, next is the thoracic (midsection) with 12 vertebrae, next is the lumbar (lower back) with 5 verbebae and then at the bottom you have the pelvic area with the sacrum (5 bones fused into a single unit) and the coccyx or tailbone which has 4 bones.
