Hernán Cortés de Monroy y Pizarro, 1st Marquis of the Valley of Oaxaca, born circa 1485, died December 2, 1547, was a Spanish Conquistador who led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire and brought large portions of mainland Mexico under the rule of Spain.

Principally, he destroyed the Aztec Empire and conquered what is today Mexico.

He conquered the Aztec empire, and the city of Tenochtitlan, and built a new colony, Peru, over Tenochtitlan and he also set sail for Mexico in 1519 in search of gold.

he went to Mexico to conqure Mexico because the govenor of Cuba wanted him to when he went he found Aztec people living there the Aztecs thought he was a god sent from above and welcomed him then Cortes triked them and turend them into christans and them killed them by using rifels armer and horse but the Aztecs did not have any armer or guns all they had where there hunting stuff

Hernán Cortés first served as a soldier in an expedition to Cuba led by Diego Velázquez in 1511. Hernán Cortés was 19 when he first set sail, when he was 21 when he led an expoditon to Cuba.

The Spanish explorer and conquistador Hernando Cortes was assigned to explore what is now Mexico. He found an advanced Native civilization there called the Aztecs. He basically subdued these people who never had seen guns, horses, and people such as the Spanish. Cortes was successful in sending gold & silver back to Spain.
