Most slaves worked in the household of wealthy egyptians. They cooked, served, cleaned, washed clothes, made beer or entertained the family as dancers, musicians and acrobats.

Some slaves were made to work on the land of a noble or temple. An educated slave often enjoyed high status looking after his master's affairs perhaps owning land and slaves himself.

Slaves also served in the army.

Others were not so fortunate. They toiled naked in the hot sun under hard overseers digging canals, building monuments and temples, working in the quarries or worst of all in the gold and copper mines in Sinai.
