Kurt Cobain wore a lot of flannel. He also wore ripped, baggy jeans, t shirts advertising bands he liked, and cardigans / sweaters. As for shoes, he could be seen in Chuck Taylors / hightops pretty often.

What was the clothing style made popular by bands such as Nirvana?

Why would you answer a question with the same question? The style of clothes that bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam wear are called "grunge". Neil Young has been referred to as "the godfather of grunge." The great thing about the style they wear is that people will pay $100 dollars for a worn out pair of jeans.

Are you asking how to dress like Kurt? If so put on an old cardigan sweater, ripped blue jeans, and Chuck Taylor All-Star shoes and you'll be all set.

Cobain's wardrobe consisted of flannel shirts and thrift store items, following the anti-fashion/grunge movement of the early to late 1990's.

Kurt was an avid shopper at thrift stores, so it is not known what the brand or who the manufacturer of the shirt was.
