Whats the difference between an atomic bomb and a regular bomb?

In a non-atomic or chemical bomb, the energy providing the explosion comes from the breaking of chemical bonds and the joining of others. An example would be ANFO, Ammonium Nitrate / Fuel Oil, probably one of the most used chemical explosives today. During the explosion the nitrate reacts with the fuel oil to produce Nitrogen, CO2 and water along with heat and pressure. In an atomic bomb the explosive energy is provided by the breaking of unstable elements, such as Uranium 235 which has a natural tendency to break down by the emission of neutrons, this is known as fission. If a large enough amount of the pure fissionable material is in contact, then it can reach critical mass as the neutrons released from one atom's decay cause two more atoms to decay, this proceeds exponentially. During fission a small amount of the mass becomes energy and using Einstein's equation, E=MC2 where E is the energy released, M is the mass converted and C squared is the speed of light squared, even a small amount of mass will release a large amount of energy. The second type of atomic bomb is a fission bomb. In this bomb 2 atoms of Hydrogen are forced together to make an atom of Helium. This is the same atomic process that powers the sun. The fission reaction is started by a fusion bomb providing the high heat and pressure to cause the atoms to unite. Again when the two atoms unite a small amount of mass is exchanged for energy.

What is energy stored in the nucleus of an atom called?

Binding energy. and some is even stored in particles, such as the neutron which has a half-life of about ten minutes before it disintegrates with the release of energy.

Is a bomb an example of nuclear energy?

Yes, radioactive decay results in the release of nuclear energy. The radioactive decay of an atom is the result of changes in the atom's nucleus, so energy released will be nuclear energy by definition.

How a nuclear bomb works?

Well, the technical explanation is very complicated, so I will make it more simple: there are the fission bomb, and the thermonuclear bomb. The fission bomb makes an explosion through the splitting of atom. Atom is the smallest measurement. There are neutrons and photons in a atom. But when you split the atom to make a big explosion, you do not use any atom. We usually use an atom of uranium-235. When the uranium atom is split, the normal amount of neutrons or photons does not come out. Then the neutrons release lots of energy! (Very simple explanation: A fission bomb is a bomb that uses energy from splitting uncontrolled atoms. And a thermonuclear bomb is just opposite to fission bomb, it gets energy from fusion of atoms to make a heavier one.

What does the atom bomb have to do with atoms?

cause the atomic bomb was suposed to destroy the japanise and end the war.

How does the nuclear bomb relate to the atom?

It gets its energy from the atomic nucleus.

What is an atom bomb?

The term atom bomb (or atomic bomb) usually refers to a bomb that obtains its energy solely through the process of nuclear fission. However technically the term is considered interchangeable with nuclear bomb, and can refer to any bomb obtaining its energy through either nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, or any combination of the two processes.

How do you differentiate production of energy in an atom bomb and a nuclear reactor?

an atom bomb is uncontrolled and the reaction is over in a few microsecondsa reactor is controlled and the reaction can continueuninterrupted for years or longer
