My experience has been that several options are offered, Klonidine patches, Ativan, or xanax for the extreme anxiety seem to be the most helpful. If diarrhea is troublesome, some over the counter immodium ad will help wonders. For the aches and pains, 800 mg of Advil/ibuprofen every 4-6 hours will take the edge off. I have also know some who have been given Subuxon to help with the overall withdrawal effects. Every one go thru this differently. It's important to stay in contact with your primary care physician or other person overseeing your withdrawal so that you are able to get care and treatment appropriate for your exact situation. Many options are available both prescription and over the counter to aid in the comfort of going through this process.

∙ 14y agoThe best way to get off of methadone is to slowly taper your dose over a period of time. Doing so allows your body to become adjusted to the new dose. In my experience the best way is to decrease a dose about 1 mg a week.
