It is located between the engine and firewall.
It's on top of the transmission. Looks similar to oil filter.

The oil filter is located in the rear of the engine compartment; close to the firewall. If underneath the vehicle; you will see it exposed ranging from white, orange, black, or blue.
The total amount of oil it takes to fill the canister on a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant is 4.5 quarts. This oil should be 5W20 or 10W30.
Same as any other car. Eliminate the Mitsubishi Galant and this has probably already been answered.
If you are putting in a new oil filter(recommended) with the change, you'll need 4 qrts. A good 3 and a half qrts. if you are leaving the old dirty filter in.

The suggested motor oil for a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant is a light 5W30 conventional oil. Older engines made need a little heavier oil to prevent leaking.

2003 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L four cyllinder or 3.0L V6 sold in Canada and US comes with 5W30 engine oil from the factory. Full synthetic is strongly recommended if car is used for city driving or prolonged idling.
You need to remove the transmision oil pan, it is held on by aproximtly 12 screw. You have to replace the filter, use a new gasket and reinstal the oil pan.
17mm wrench, oil pan, oil and jack stands or wheel ramps.
The oil sensor switch of 1997 Mitsubishi pajero is right above the oil filter - screwed into the base of the oil filter unit.
You can use API GL-4, SAE 75W90 semi synthetic for your Galant. There are standard types of oil used in these types of cars.
