When people cease to believe in a given religion, that religion gets demoted to the status of mythology, so to study the religion of the ancient Egyptians one would find it under the category of Egyptian mythology; that is the only name that we have for it. Modern Egypt is primarily Muslim, but also has a significant Coptic Christian minority.

Polytheistic, with a pantheon of many deities, throughout most of the history of the Old and New Kingdom. An exception being under Akenaten, who changed the religion to monotheism. Polytheism was re-established under Tutankhamun.

The ancient Egyptians practised many different religions, such as worshipping many gods and a primitive form of Christianity, or the faith of the Israelites. It is found in the book of Genesis where the faith of one man (Joseph, or Zapheneth-Paneah) showed the light for many of the Egyptians. As for the worshipping of their gods, they would bath, feed, clothe, and worship their gods each and every day. Each god had a temple, priests, priestesses, and followers. Many popular gods were Amon-Re, Seth, Ra, and Horus.
