Some species of black widow have a red dot.

This is most likely a "jumping spider" and can be confirmed if it has squat legs, a stocky fuzzy body, somewhat twitchy behavior and, well, jumps. That would be your first clue.

It may be a Black Widow spider. They are very poisonous and it is probably best not to approach it if you are unsure of the species. Black spiders have a distinctive red "hourglass" shape on its back.
