How do you replace the rear wheel bearings on a 1996 gmc jimmy 4 wheel drive?

-Raise and support the vehicle. -Remove rear wheels and disc brakes or drums . -Drain differential oil. Remove differential cover. -In the differential housing there is an 8mm lock bolt that holds the pinion shaft in place remove that. -Remove the pinion shaft. -Remove the C-lock from the button end of the axle shaft. For that you will have to push in on the axle shaft. It will move freely with the pinion shaft out. The pinion shaft holds the two axle shafts apart. -With the C-lock out you can pull the axle shaft out. - You will need an axle bearing puller to remove the bearing. Pull the bearing and the oil seal out. -Clean everything nice and neat with brake parts cleaner. Wipe with clean towel. -Install new bearing and oil seal. You will need a bearing and race setter. (It helps to freeze the bearing before installation.) -Install the clean axle shaft. -Install C-lock. -Install pinion shaft. -Install pinion shaft lock bolt. Use blue thread locker paste so it doesn't come loose from the vibration. -Remove the remaining of the gasket from the differential and pan. Use a razor blade don't scratch it. -Install gasket and differential cover. -Add the differential oil. -Install brake rotors or drums, tires. If you have any doubts take it to a shop. You have to be really precise.

How do you replace the pinion shaft seal on your F 350 dually?

to replace pinion shaft seal you need to drop the drive shaft from the rear end then with large socket remove pinion nut from front of yoke remove yoke remove old pinion seal install new pinion seal reinstall yoke and pinion nut to specified torque re install drive shaft note now is the time to check and see if U-joints need replacing

Why would a Ford explorer jerk while driving?

Your Pinion seal on the drive shaft and rear differential need to be fixed.

How do you replace the pinion bearing and seal on a 02 mountianieer?

to replace pinion bearing and seal you need to remove drive shaft.you then remove the pinion nut from pinion shaft. u usually need a pretty good rattle gun to remove this .then remove yoke from front of differential.u may need a puller but usuall tapping with hammer will loosen it. remove the bearing and replace with new one then install seal and replace cover and ypke. replace pinion nut, fill with oil.replace drive shaft

How do you change rear wheel bearings on a 99 Chevy silverado 4WD Do the bearings have to be pressed?

remove the differential cover, remove pinion shaft lock bolt, withdraw the pinion shaft part way, then rotate the dif untel the touches the case give you enought room to access the C-locks on the axle remove the C-locks,insert the pinion shaft back in,pull axles out,you need a slide hammer with a axle bearing remover attachmment to remove and bearing driver or a large socket reinstall good luck....haynes repair manual wll show you step by step

How do you change rear pinion bearing on a 2004 dodge 1500 ram 4x4?

How much to fix a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 rear differential?

You can purchase a rebuilt diff for about $1000. Installation will take 4-8 hours. However, if the ring and pinion are in good shape you may only need to replace the output shaft bearings. 300-400 installed. JD

How do you replace pinion bearings on s10 blazer 4wd?

Buy a manual first.Remove drive shaft, remove pinion bolt, remove differential cover and drain oil.you will need to remove the axles and the carrier. Then the pinion itself. You will need to have a press to remove and replace the bearings.New crush washer (I am assuming it uses one)You need to be able to set gear lash after replacing the pinion. It is a tedious job requiring special equipment.you will need some way to hold the pinion flange while you set the bearing preload with a torque wrench. As you can see this is quite a job.It can be done but you need a good manual first,a factory service manual is best. You will need to buy or rent a bunch of tools. Then read and take your time and you will get it.

What are the possible methods to install a pinion on to the shaft having a larger hole than the shaft?

The easiest way would be to make a bushing with the same ID as the OD of the shaft and the OD as the ID of the pinion. If there is no great load on it a press fit might suffice. If there is a heavy load, the bushing and shafts would need to be keyed to prevent spinning. This is assuming that we are not talking about an automobile ring and pinion gear. The loads and stresses imposed on an automobile ring and pinion are too great. ID = inside diameter OD = outside diameter

How do you change pinion gear in a 1994 camaro?

When working on the differential it's important to understand that it's far more than just replacing the part. If the pinion gear is not matched and properly adjusted to the ring gear, the differential will howl and fail prematurely. The process is not something that can be easily described, you really do need to have someone show you how.

Vigor oil pan replacement?

This is not a simple project. I haven't done it but I've been reading the Honda Motor Manual about it. Oil pan is attached to the differential (and the differential is attached to one of the two drive shafts and the intermediate shaft), so after attaching an engine hoist to the engine hoist bracket, support the transmission, draining the engine and differential oil, you'll have to remove, sequentially; 1. The wheels 2 Both driveshafts(and all the steps required for axle job, ie. ball joint, damper forks) 3. Transmission mount(about 6 bolts involved, 40 and 47 ft -lbs) 4.1 33 mm(58 ft-lbs)Extension shaft/secondary gear sealing bolt (to get to the extension shaft) 4.2 Extension shaft(need a special tool) 5. Engine mount damper and left engine bracket 6. Intermediate shaft 7. Differential (and the power steering speed sensor attached to it) 8. Oil pan inner pipe Hopefully I cover all the important steps If you are not a mechanic like I'm(not), I strongly suggest the Honda very own manual(about 70$) and study what drives what. You'll see that two driveshafts that drive the wheels are driven by a differential carrier that's driven by a pinion gear(in the differential assembly) Only one of the driveshaft is driven directly by the differential carrier while the other is driven throgh an intermediate shaft which is driven by the differential carrier. The pinion gear is driven by a secondary gear in the transmission by means of an extension shaft. And the secondary gear is driven by the countershaft of the tranny itself. So there are 3 shafts that attach to the differential. One is "to drive" the differential(the extension shaft) and the other two shafts, which drive the wheels, are "driven by" the differential ( one of the two driveshafts and the intermediate shaft). All these three shafts need to be detached from the differential. If you are doing on the floor like me, the job will be harder, esp the 33 mm bolt that cover the access to the extension shaft. If your car is drivable, I'd first take it to a near by shop and let someone there loosen the 33mm bolt and the transmission mounting bolts(then lightly retighten them), but I would not drive it far after this( and not on highway). Ps. check youtube on extension shaft removal. It's for Acura Legend, not Vigor, but you can get the idea.
