Some theology schools focus heavily on offering academically rigorous programs, with a wide variety of coursework which could also prepare students for careers as professors, and some offer only the minimum needed to prepare students for ordination and service in ministry. Some schools focus entirely on a certain religious tradition or denomination, while others provide or require coursework focused on other faiths or on the academic study of religion. Many theology degree programs also require field work, which often occurs in the form of a student taking an internship or part-time job which allows him or her to gain practical experience in theology.
