The area set aside were known as an Indian Reservation. Unfortunately, if gold was discovered on the reservation (for instance), the tribes would be pushed off as the white population would invade, suffering from gold fever.
They were/are called "reservations", but many were later "stolen" back by whites and the native Americans forcibly relocated to another on even less desirable land.

There really is not an island reserved for native Hawaiians, the island of Kaho'olawe was placed in the trust of Hawai'i but it's not reserved for native Hawaiians. They have ceded lands, which is about 1.8 million acres set aside for native Hawaiians though.
