While Klan policies were never a strong suit they are not what really led to their decline. Opponents of the Klan simply hit them where it hurt. The Klan of the 1920s grew during National Prohibition because of its strong support and defense of that experiment. However, hypocritical crimes committed by the group's leader discredited the organization even among its members. Its membership quickly declined.
