The Cold War was NOT a war. No weapons were used. No cities were destroyed. No ships were sunk. No armies fought. No one died. The Cold War was a military "stand-off" in which the communist world and the free world each "threatened" each other with nuclear weapons, if one or the other made the wrong move. It all ended in 1990. The end of the cold war.
The Cold War ended in1989,with the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. When Mikhail Gorbachev assumed power in the Soviet Union in 1985,the end of the Cold War was near. When Poland elected a non-communist government, they expected that Gorbachev would roll in with tanks, but he refused. This was the beginning of the end of the Cold War.
