You must ask your vet. It's not wise to medicate your pet without consulting an expert. Some people will say that aspirin is fine for your dog, and while it may not knock him over dead (I hope) it may not be the best thing for him. IF THE ANIMAL IS IN PAIN HE MUST BE TAKEN TO THE VET. It is your responsibility as a pet owner to insure that your pet is comfortable and provided for. Do not wait until it is more convenient for you or whatever other excuses people come up with. Do NOT wait for it to become an emergency situation. This will only end up costing you more money and inconvenience.

If the vet gives you the okay, then go ahead and do as he says. 325mg once a day is normal dosage for a healthy, medium-to-large dog. However, once the dog has gotten some relief I recommend asking more questions and doing your own research, then asking your vet what he thinks about other solutions you've come up with. For example, my vet placed my dog on a medication regimen consisting of Rimadyl in the morning and aspirin before bed. I complied with this, then researched the drugs and other options available. As it turns out, the rimadyl is bad for the dog's liver (he's supposed to be on it indefinitely for hip dysplasia, a degenerative condition) and aspirin is questionable also. I know my vet's a good guy, he just did the best thing to get rid of the pain as soon as possible and that's important. So I talked to my him about my concerns and he gave me a drug-free dietary supplement that has done more for my dog's joint pain than both medications combined. He only takes the medication on his rare bad days now, as opposed to every day.

The moral of the story is: Ask Questions, Do your own Research, and above all DON'T give your pet anything that could make him worse off. Follow your vet's instructions, take good care of the dog, and be involved in the solution.

Baby aspirin can be given to dogs for relief of pain or inflammation. Caution should be exercised in dosage. Doses of about 30 milligram per pound can be toxic for dogs. For proper dosage instructions individuals should consult a veterinarian.

Is it OK to give your dog 0.4 ml of aspirin?

Yes, yes it is. How much aspirin a dog can have depends on it's size and weight! If you are doubt about how much aspirin to give your dog, call your vet's office and ask them. Regular strength buffered or baby aspirins should be used, not "safety coated" aspirin. Always give aspirin with food, to help avoid an upset stomach. If the dog starts to vomit, stop giving it aspirin. Aspirin has blood thinning properties, so it can be dangerous in some dogs. For long term pain relief there are safer veterinary-specific alternatives.

Can you give a 30 pound dog an aspirin for foot pain?

No - dogs should never be given human pain medications (Tylenol, aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Motrin, ibuprofen, etc.). Dogs are very sensitive to the side effects, which can be fatal. If you believe your dog would benefit from pain medication, you will need to make an appointment with your veterinarian for an examination. There are safe pain medications available for dogs, but you need a veterinary prescription to get them.

I'd check with your vet first, aspirin can upset the stomach, not all antbiotics will agree with pets, if your vet gave you the amoxicillin did they mention to give aspirin also? Aspirin not recommended by your vet can be fatal to your dog. Never ever give aspirin made for human consumption to your dogs.
