Well first of all they are hermaphrodites (both sexes in one). They also lack circulatory and respiratory systems. Because of their flat bodies they are able to obtain oxygen and nutrients through their skin by the process of diffusion.

Earth is unique because it is the only known planet that, along with the sun, provides everything needed to sustain life.

However, based on the anthropic principle, Earth is "special" only because it (alone) is inhabited by creatures (human beings) able to perceive and think of it as being special, as well as able to have become cognizant of its being but one among other planetary bodies.

Were it inhabited instead by only non-human animals, there would be no perception or opinion of Earth's having any subjectivequality, special or otherwise. Moreover, before discovery of its status as an orbiting body on par with other planets, the quality, "specialness," was (and could be) attributable to God only, but not to the "earth" planet itself.

As far as we know - the Earth is the only planet in the whole universe with life on it. Until we have the capability to send probes far beyond our own galaxy - and send the data back quick enough to be analysed - that will always be our assumption. Personally - I refuse to believe that - in a universe of billions of galaxies, containing trillions of stars - ours is the only planet with life on it ! There is probably life out there - more intelligent than us - that just doesn't find us 'interesting' enough to want to prove they exist !

Earth exists in what we call the "habitable zone" from the sun; like Goldilocks, it's not too hot, nor too cold; thus, it has LIFE. Life is what makes Earth so special.
