"because of the light the moon gives off the light makes it seem bigger!"

Firstly, the Moon doesn't emit it's own light.

Secondly, below this sentence is a bullet pointed version of events that makes the moon get bigger or smaller.

  • THE SUN emits light which reflects onto the moon giving it the illumination which then reflects onto the Earth (which is what muddles people up with the Moon's glow)
  • THE MOON GETS BIGGER AND SMALLER because of the position the Sun is in (read 1 & 2)
  1. If the sun was low... The Moon wouldn't always appear and it will show less than half of a moon or not appear at all (as the Earth is blocking The Sun's path to reflect onto the Moon).
  2. The higher the Sun is... The Moon would appear big and it will show more than half of a moon to a full moon (as the Earth is not in the Sun's path and will easily reflect onto the Moon).

Thirdly, I wasn't being nasty to whoever said: "because of the light the moon gives off the light makes it seem bigger!" as it's a fact that the Moon has no light emitting source, so please do not take it the wrong way.

Lastly, I hope you find my answer helpful. :D

Is the moon getting bigger just after a full moon?

The Moon neither gets bigger nor smaller. The angular size won't change much, either; if it looks bigger to you, that is a psychological effect. It is common to perceive the Moon as bigger, when it is close to the horizon.

When do the highest tides occur?

High tides are the biggest when the moon is Full or when the moon is a New Moon. The gravitational pull of the Moon is greatest at these phases which makes a bigger bulge in the ocean causing high tide. But it also depends on the time of year when the tides are low or high.

Why is it called waxing after the new moon?

It is called "waxing" before the full moon. It is called "waning" after the full moon. "Waxing" is a word that means "getting bigger". "Waning" means "fading out".

When we are seeing moon in the evening seems to be bigger than the moon seeing in the midnight?

That actually depends. If you notice a full moon on the horizon, it seems bigger compared to other things on the horizon. When you notice the full moon closer to its zenith in the sky, it seems dwarfed by the vast expance of sky. The difference is an optical illusion.

What is the difference between a waxing and waning gibbous?
