What means flash program ecu in a car?
The ecu (or PCM) is the drivetrain computer. A flash update is just like a Windows or Mac program update. The manufacturer has altered the code and it has to be installed on the computer. The shop uses a bi-directional scan tool to load in the new software.
They do the same thing when they install a rebuilt computer--they have to install the software.

No. ECU generally stands for Engine Control Unit, i.e. the brain or nerve centre for engine. Without it - no go. With that said, not all cars have an ECU. An older car with a carburetor, old-fashioned distributor and all that will run quite happily entirely without anything even remotely similar to an ECU. A Diesel car may not have an ECU etc etc. Read More

here is an excellent forum with pics to show you how to flash the codes. it says ecu is found on drivers side, but my ecu was on passengers. it doesn't really matter... as long as you can find ecu you're set. make sure when you cut the wire not to plug it into the 3p connector. it's the 2 prong that you want. the article also has related subjects, such as "ecu reset procedure"… Read More

To reset the ecu, simply disconnect the battery terms for 90 sec. People say 60 sec. but I do 90 just in case. When you say "relearn", do you mean learn the same program that's already written in the ecu, or do you mean learn a completely different set of commands? If it is the first one, an ecu immedietly starts to follow the same commands but it can take a while if something has… Read More
