Veterans Day is celebrated in the month of November on the 11th day.

November 11, or what has come to be known as Veterans Day, was originally designated as a US legal holiday to honor Armistice Day - the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In a Congressional bill passed in 1938, November 11 was "dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day." As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans. In 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day, honoring all who served honorably in the armed forces.

It is observed as Armistice Day in New Zealand, France, Belgium, and Serbia, and as Remembrance Day (also Poppy Day) in countries of the British Commonwealth.

Veterans Day is November 11. The day is a federal holiday, and in every state it is a state holiday. (If the date lands on a weekend, the day off is granted to federal employees on the nearest weekday.) November 11 was Armistice Day, the day observed as the anniversary date of the end of World War I. In 1954, President Eisenhower broadened the meaning of that holiday by changing it to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all U.S. wars.

Emporia, KS on 11/11/53 instead of an armistice day program there was a Veterans Day observance. Ed reeves, of Emporia, so impressed, introduced a bill to change the name to Veterans Day. The name was changed to Veterans Day by active Congress on 05/24/54. In October of that year, President Eisenhower called on all citizens, to serve the day By remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought so gallantly and through re-dedication to the task of promoting an enduring peace; changing the name in honor of the servicemen all America’s wars.
