Well, I didn't have much knowledge of air conditioning when I decide to retrofit my '91 4runner. I asked the guy at the auto parts store and he recommended a kit and gave me some advice. I went home, read the instructions (they were very easy) and had my system retrofitted/recharged in less than 10 minutes. I didn't drain any oil or replace any gaskets. It is working very well and I have had no trouble with it at all. I did not even realize all the stuff that some people do to their a/c until I read the answers on this site. Basic procedure : First evacuate the system of all R-12 Freon. Remove the compressor and drain all the oil out (R134 uses different types of oil). Go to your local parts store and purchase a retro fit kit (it should have o-rings, fitting adapters, oil and R134a). Be sure to also purchase a new Accumulator (receiver/dryer). Be sure to have a vacuum pump to get any moisture out of the system before you add the R134a. I would also go to your local library for a book to help you with the process.

This is something that needs to be done by a professional, because the a/c system needs to have the freon removed prior to taking the lines loose. They can remove the freon and store it while the hose is being replaced and then put the same freon back in.

2001 Mazda MPV how to recharge air conditioning?

For adding additional Freon, you will need the proper Freon type of Freon and connectors for your vehicle. The Freon is added through the low pressure port of your ac system. If your system needs a complete recharge then the air needs to be removed first (known as pulling a vacuum) before Freon is added.
