What is the resolution of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?

Albus Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel then discuss the situation and agree that the best course of action is the destroy the philosopher's stone. That was cannot be stolen and used by Voldemort in future.

Then on the train back, Harry receives a letter from Sirius from a tiny owl, with a signed permission slip for Harry to visit Hogsmeade in the next year, and saying that Ron can keep the owl because it is Sirius's fault that he no longer has a rat. Ron then lets Crookshanks sniff the new owl, and is pleased when Crookshanks purrs, seeing this a confirmation that the owl is definitely an owl and not an Animagus.
