The word or name "Orleans" is French in origin. Chicago, being a hub for goods coming in from evey direction, including areas of the Louisiana Purchase and Canada meant that the people of French ancestry had an influence on the area. Orleans is also the name of a city in France. It is doubtful that it had anything to do with New Orleans, in Louisiana.
The National Football Team, The New Orleans Saints, was founded in 1966. Their name originates from the world famous jazz anthem, " When the Saints Go Marching in;" also, the name of the team was given in recognition of the city's Catholic population. We got the name because we were granted the team on All Saints Day
