What are the products produced in mitochondria?
Mitochondria, is the part of the cell which converts oxygen into energy. It is the site of respiration in the cell and it produces energy so that the cell can carry out its basic functions. The end product it forms is ATP or Adenosine Tri-phosphate. The red blood cells in our body do not have a mitochondria which ensures that the energy is transferred to the particular body part and is not absorbed by the RBC itself.

What body part converts food to energy?
All parts of the body (muscles, brain, heart, and liver) need energy to work. This energy comes from the food we eat. Our bodies digest the food we eat by mixing it with fluids (acids and enzymes) in the stomach. When the stomach digests food, the carbohydrate (sugars and starches) in the food breaks down into another type of sugar, called glucose. The stomach and small intestines absorb the glucose and then release it into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, glucose can be used immediately for energy or stored in our bodies, to be used later. However, our bodies need insulin in order to use or store glucose for energy. Without insulin, glucose stays in the bloodstream, keeping blood sugar levels high.

What process is it that releases energy from food in the presence of oxygen?
The process that releases energy in the body is referred to as internal respiration and involves the ATP molecule. But food is not what takes part in this process, because the food needs to be digested, broken down, into glucose for the body to use it in releasing energy. That glucose can come from any of the three different food products we consume, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
