The blood cells. They burst open and make you very sick.
malaria parasites target your liver first, after they enter your body. They change many liver cells before settling in for final. They divide in your liver to produce large number of parasites. When the liver cells rupture, the parasites invade the red blood cells. They multiply there. When the infected red blood cells rupture, they invade the fresh red blood cells and the cycle continues.
Malaria affects your liver. This parasite grows there. So liver is enlarged. Then parasites affects the red blood cells. Spleen is enlarged to do the extra work of engulfing the haemoglobin from destructed red blood cells. Lungs, intestine and brain is affected due to clogged capillaries. Kidneys are affected due to liberation of large scale haemoglobin in circulation, sometimes, when quinine is used to treat the malaria. This clogs the pores of glomeruli, to give kidney failure.
Symptoms: a fever, headache, aching muscles, a tummy ache, diarrhoea and vomiting - especially in children, lack of energy, loss of appetite, a cough. The liver and blood system are mainly affected, though other parts of the body can be affected too.
