Earthquakes occur around the areas where volcanoes are so if you look at a map of a volcanoes around the world, you'll be able to see. Of course there's some variation as to the location of earthquakes to that of a volcano but to decide one point, it would have to be the ring of fire.

Areas that are located near major fault lines are earthquake prone. Areas like California, Alaska, and regions in the central US are all near major fault lines.

What are the earthquake prone areas in the world?

the reason some parts of the earth are more prone to having earthquakes is because of the fault line the cities are built on.

Was Japan a major area for Earthquakes?

Yes, Japan is an earthquake-prone spot. Japan is more likely to have earthquakes than many other countries.

Why are earthquake proof buildings only found in some earthquake prone areas?

Earthquake proof buildings are more expensive to build. Some people do not have the extra money.

Where countries are no earthquakes?

There is no "place" on Earth that cannot receive an earthquake. There are just places that are more prone to them. An earthquake occurs when two of Earth's pates collide. Places like Hawaii might be more prone to earthquakes because of the undersea volcanoes that make up the area.

Why would an earthquake be more devastating in a country that rarely gets serious earthquakes?

First world countries or regions that are earthquake prone tend to have very strict building regulations so that earthquake resistant designs and construction techniques are employed in the design and construction of buildings and other infrastructure. These regulations are also strictly enforced. Countries where earthquake are rare are unlikely to require the results of seismic activity to be considered in the design and construction process (except in the most sensitive of buildings e.g. nuclear reactors) as this is more expensive and is considered to not be a significant enough risk to warrant the additional expense. As such in the unlikely event that a large earthquake did occur in the country where they were rare, it would do significantly more damage as the structures were not designed to withstand earthquakes. Also earthquake prone regions will have an emergency response prepared in the event of a major earthquake that will be well practised. The emergency response in a country with low earthquake risk will be less well prepared as they will concentrate their training on dealing with other more likely scenarios.

Where in the US might you have felt the effects of this earthquake?

Earthquakes happen each and every day somewhere around the world but some places are more prone to have more earthquakes than others. If you think you felt an earthquake then you should check the USGS Earthquake Information Center website to see a map of recent earthquakes. They have a "Did You Feel It?" website to report events.

Why are the Himalayan region and ganga-brahmaputra valley most prone to earthquakes?

shiwalik is made up of unconsolidated sediments and is the lowermost part of the himalayas.it is found near river valleys which erodes the soil and hence prone to landslides .it is also located near the boundary of a tectonic plate and hence more prone to earthquake.

Why does Japan have to have an earthquake?

Japan is more prone to earthquakes than other countries due to it's location on fault lines. Japan is actually located on the boarder of two converging plates. The Eurasian plate to the west of it and the Pacific plate to the east.

Where was the 0.1 earthquake?

Without more specific information, it is not possible to determine the exact location of a 0.1 earthquake. Earthquakes of this magnitude are very minor and generally not felt by humans. They can occur in various parts of the world, including areas prone to seismic activity.

Does the US have more tornadoes than any other place in the world?

The U.S. certainly records more tornadoes than any other place in the world and is also more prone to strong tornadoes. However, many countries do not keep records of the tornadoes that they get and so the majority of the world's tornadoes go undocumented. But until more complete documentation can be established the U.S. will hold its status as the most tornado prone country.

Why is important for us to identify areas which are prone to earthquake?

So that people who chose to live in that area make an informed decision about doing so. Buildings and other infrastructure can be designed to be more robust against earthquake damage.
