Its impossible because if any plant's roots are put in clayey soil,it will not grow as clay is so sticky that it will not let the roots reach till any source of as plants need water for making their own foodI just moved into a house and some of the beds around it seem to have no topsoil but are all clay. There are big hostas growing there, to my great surprise. You can improve the clay soil by adding peat moss and compost and mixing it up.
