It might be interesting to note that ingesting a significant amount of poppy seeds

can cause you to fail a drug test, as they provide a false positive for opium,

since opium is derived from a certain type of poppy.

It typically takes about 2 bagels worth to test positive.

If a teaspoon of poppy seed oil is taken nightly, it can help insomnia. Also the stalks are used as a pain reliever. Poppy seeds often relieve symptoms of dysentery . If you MASH poppy seeds and rub them on an itch, it can help stop the itching.
