The Pilgrims came to Massachusetts in 1620. That was over 100 years before we had the American Revolution and a president.

On June 19, 1862, President Lincoln signed a bill into law that forbid slavery in the western territories.This appeared to be a violation of the US Constitution based on the 1857 Dred Scott case.
In the United States slavery was order to end in 1863 by President Lincoln. However, it took many states several years to follow this law.
On Nov. 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the King Holiday Bill into law.
