What problems are caused by non-biodigradable pesticides?
September 13, 2011 12:11PM
Can cause health problems, such as birth defects, nerve damage, cancer, and other effects that might occur over a long period of time.Top of the food chain species, including herring gulls, bald eagles, mink and peregrine falcons, have suffered from damaged reproductive systems and disrupted hormones therefore meaning a decline in population due to DDT.
Children's immune, nervous and reproductive systems are still developing meaning they are more vulnerable to the effects of pesticides than adults.

What diseases are caused by pesticides?
---- Diseases caused by pesticides include many skin diseases because farmers are physically exposed to the pesticides as they are spraying it or mixing it - dermatitus. What problems can be caused by non-biodegradable pesticides?
Non biodegradable pesticides don't rot, so they stay in the soil forever (well not forever, but a long time) This wouldn't be a problem if you were a traditional farm, but organic farm ban the use of pesticides. This means that they would not be able to use this land to grow their healthier crops. This also means that the animals of any farmer - traditional or organic - may be able to contract diseases due to eating the harmful chemicals in pesticides in their feed - potentially grass, or other herbivorous food items...

What methods could be applied to reduce intake of pesticides?
Pesticides and chemicals have become a big threat for our health and if we donot take corrective action now we will be in big problems especially health wise. What can we do to reduce intake of pesticides - well many actions can be taken like: 1- Take only organically grown food. 2- Reduce use of chemicals. 3- Make people aware about problems due to pesticides intake especially the farmers and ask them not to use chemicals and pesticides for farming. 4- People think productivity goes down if we do not use chemical fertilisers and pesticides but it is not so organic inputs can give better results and we need to educated our farmers about this.
