Declaration of Independence was merely the first step towards independence. The very first difficulty faced by Americans was the war waged by British forces to quell what they considered treason. The war was long and bloody and took a heavy toll on life on both sides. Newly declared independent states had to fight for international recognition and economic challenges as well.
